Guru Arjan Dev Ji Shaheedi Diwas – June 15-17

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sangat Ji,

This weekend we remember the Shaheedi of our beloved Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The humblest of the humble, the powerful of the powerful, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was tortured on a hot plate, with hot sand pouring on top, but through all of this Guru Ji remained calm and strong in the will of the Waheguru.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in 1604, finished compiling the Adi Granth. Adi Granth was installed for the first time at Harmandir Sahib by Guru Arjan Dev ji.

“Tera kiya meetha lage. Har naam padarath nanak mange.”
Your actions seem so sweet to me. Nanak begs for the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

Please join in this weekend’s Akhand Path sewa and pay respects for this immense sacrifice.

Akhand Paath: Guru Arjan Dev Ji Shaheedi Diwas
Aramb: Fri June 15 from 9AM to 10AM
Bhog:  Sun June 17 from 9AM to 10AM

Emergency Preparedness and Mental Well Being

Posted Posted in Weekly Programs

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sangat Ji,

The Canadian Government acknowledges this week in May as the Emergency Preparedness Week. We should be prepared for emergencies caused by climate change and other threats, as these are becoming more common. You can find more information at the link below:

https://www.getprepared.gc.ca/cnt/rsrcs/ep-wk/index-en.aspx

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) also regards this week as the Mental Health Week. Many people deal with mental health issues that can negatively impact their family life. CMHS has provided strategies that can help us deal with such issues. Use the link below for more information:

https://mentalhealthweek.ca/strategies-for-well-being

The strategies outlined in the mental health week article are indeed similar to Guru Nanak’s philosophy. Kirit Karo, Naam Japo, Vand Chhako. It’s about taking the time to making yourself stronger through active living, meditation, and self-awareness and then applying your strengths and abilities to build a caring and resilient community.

The registration for the Punjabi classes is ongoing. We will be conducting the Introductory class on May 20th. You can use the link below to register:
