410 Clair Road E Construction and Funding Update – May 2021

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sadh Sangat Ji,

The completion of the new gurdwara building on Clair Road is a highly anticipated event. The last phase of completion and inspections are really near. However, the pandemic has caused ongoing construction delays and a substantial loss of income.

Here are the some important updates to share with you.

Continuation of Operations During COVID

The 70 Stevenson St Gurdwara operation has been maintained
The new site construction has continued intermittently with lots of progress
The costs of labour and supplies have continued to rise throughout
The payments for the bills have been sustained and are ongoing
Unfortunately, as lockdowns persist, and with more than a year of limited gatherings and canceled gurdwara events, the financial situation has been strained and it needs immediate support from the sangat!

Fundraising and Funding Needs

From the beginning of 2020, appeals have been made to the sangat locally and in neighbouring cities to help us raise 1 million dollars to finish the construction.
Meanwhile, COVID started and that added an extra layer of financial challenges

Given the current situation: We are requesting the sangat to please help!
We need to raise $500,000 urgently through donations or loans!

How Can You Help?

In this strenuous scenario, we are asking the community to rise to the challenge for the Guru’s project!

A minimum of two year loans are needed! Example: personal credit line loans, or reverse mortgage etc.
The cost of borrowing (loan interest costs) will be covered by Guelph Sikh Society.

We are specifically pleading to those community members who are in a better financial situation to open up their hearts and make the greatly needed financial commitment asap please!
That’s exactly what Guru Nanak Dev Ji did when he chose to invest the 20 Rupees for community development rather than just adding to personal wealth! Spreading the wealth in the community means a sustainable, supportive and futuristic community. Indeed, the Sikh nation has risen to the challenge at time of COVID.
It takes great spirit to make the financial sacrifices needed to bring community projects to fruition as taught by our Guru Ji.

ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥
Gɦaali kɦaaī kicɦɦu haṭɦahu ḍeī ॥
Naanak raahu pacɦɦaañahi seī ॥1॥
One who works for what he eats, and gives some of what he has
O Nanak, he knows the Path. ||1|

We are grateful to those who have helped us in the past with personal loans ranging from $5000 to over $100, 000!
These individuals have chosen to put the Guru’s project ahead of their personal investments even if it meant personal financial sacrifices and simpler living.

May Guru Nanak bless us all the courage and chardi kala to take a big step forward financially at this critical time of need to finish the new home for our Shabad Guru Ji!

Please don’t wait for others. It is within each of us to do our part to give!

The entire community will truly cherish that moment to welcome the Soul and Living Guru, the Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, at the new larger home to serve generations to come. Waheguru bless all!

and departed after having worked by the sweat of their brows
-O Nanak, their faces are radiant in the Court of the Lord,
and many are saved along with them! ||1||
